This is a new and developing area of the website dedicated to patients who are to undergo treatment in the hand surgery unit.
The hand surgery unit is located on ward 39, Leazes wing, RVI, and contains three theatres undertaking planned and urgent surgeries predominantly on the hands.
Patients planned for routine hand surgery under the plastic surgery team will usually be treated here, as well as patients who sustain traumatic injuries to their hands.
The majority of these cases are undertaken awake, using regional anaesthesia and not a general anaesthetic, and this area of the website will help you understand why this is the case, and how it all works.
